Berkeley Soccer Association's 8-week Soccer Stars Program is designed with two main goals in mind:
- ⚽ To provide a fun, engaging introduction to soccer for young players.
- 👨👩👧👦 To help parents who are new to the sport become confident and effective volunteer coaches.
Our Soccer Stars program is a great way for children to learn the game in a positive environment while families become part of the Berkeley Soccer community.
Each Saturday morning, experienced trainers work directly with volunteer parent coaches, guiding them through the skills, activities, and games planned for the day. Trainers demonstrate how to teach each skill, organize a complete practice session, and keep the experience fun, positive, and age-appropriate. Parent coaches are encouraged to arrive approximately 10 minutes early to review the day's activities with the trainers.
Additional U6 Development Training
To provide additional touches on the ball and accelerate player development, our oldest age group (U6) will also participate in a Wednesday evening training session from 6:00 PM–7:00 PM at Eastern Soccer Complex. These sessions will reinforce the skills introduced on Saturdays in a fun, game-based environment.
Sessions range from 45 minutes to one hour, depending on the age group, and include:
- Skill development activities
- Small-sided scrimmages
- Introduction to basic soccer rules and techniques
- Fun, high-energy games designed to build confidence and enjoyment
Players are grouped by school-year age divisions and participate in a supportive, encouraging environment focused on development, participation, and having fun.
Make-Up Sessions
If a scheduled Saturday or Wednesday session is canceled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, Berkeley Soccer Association will make every effort to schedule a make-up session whenever possible.
Eligibility
The Soccer Stars Program is open to players in the following school-year age groups:
U4: August 1, 2022 – July 31, 2023
U5: August 1, 2021 – July 31, 2022
U6: August 1, 2020 – July 31, 2021
Player Equipment
All registered players will receive a Berkeley Soccer Association Soccer Stars T-shirt to wear during sessions.
Players should also bring:
- ✅ Shin guards (required)
- ✅ Athletic shorts
- ✅ Soccer socks
- ✅ Size 3 soccer ball
- ✅ Soccer cleats or athletic sneakers (cleats strongly recommended)
